New RAFSA User Login Experience

What does this mean for me?

We are moving all the RAFSA member accounts to a dedicated platform which will handle the user details and passwords in a more secure manner. Once your account has been moved across, you will be required to set up a new, more secure password and enrol in the Microsoft Authenticator service. This will ensure that all our member details are protected and minimises the chances of any credentials getting into unwanted hands.

The service will be handled by the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, and is widely adopted across the globe. In the future, as we launch more interactive services for our members, we will use the same platform for logging in, meaning that you only have one password as your passport to RAFSA services.

What does multi-factor authentication mean?

On the new member experience, you will be prompted to enter a 6-digit number after you have typed in your password. This can be accessed by opening up the Authenticator app, and entering the code that is displayed on the screen. This code changes every 30 seconds, so remember that it’s not the same code each time.
