Hi all,

in this post I'll be listing books/websites that have good info/background on anything that may be relevant. It's a living post so keep an eye on it for updates!

The official regatta website

BOOKS

Blue Water Sailing manual
Edited by Barry Pickthall
ISBN-13: 978-0713676204

The comprehensive guide to offshore sailing in a challenge yacht.
Highly recommended.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Proving Ground
Bruce Knecht
ISBN-13: 978-0007292080

Fatal Storm: The 54th Sydney to Hobart Race
Rob Mundle
ISBN-13: 978-0713667509

Both of the above books detail the story of the '98 race. If you don't know the history of that race I would recommend reading one of these to give yourself some background on how challenging this race can be. Know what you are potentially getting yourself into, it's not called adventurous sailing for nothing......

As promised, more useful books and links

Any North U sailing book or CD
A great series on anything from racing trim, tactics and weather
See http://www.northu.com/nu/NU_catalog.taf?_function=list&category=21&flash=5 for the range

Racing Skipper
Mike Golding

A good all round book about how to make yachts go fast

http://game.finckh.net/indexe.htm
A great website for learning the rules of racing - updated for 2009

http://www.ukhalsey.com/LearningCenter/index.asp
This UK-Halsey website requires registration but I've never had any spam. Inside is a wealth of good gen including sea safety videos that will prove very useful, for example, doing a MOB quickstop with the kite up, MOB recovery and quite a few more.

Try those for a while and if there is anything that you can't find or want to know then let me know,

Coops

Hi Coops,

That racing rules website is ideal - it has stumped a few of us in the office here! Go for the port-end flyer every time!

Hi Coops,

On the Training Weekend, you mentioned weaning off coffee for the previous 2 months prior to the Sydney - Hobart. The way around that is chocolate covered roasted coffee beans from Whittards. Just 3 or 4 of these are ideal to pep you up, with no long lasting effects. I have used them extensively for night flying ops:

Secondly, a point for weight saving (useful for any racing event) 'Superdrug' do 'holiday' sized shampoo and shower gels etc, (approx 100ml) enough for 1 weeks use. Useful to reduce the weight/size of people's wash bags :)

Cheers

Ryan
